Land Rover Range Rover Sport Hybrid vs Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: More Value and Capability

When you want a true luxury hybrid SUV that remains true to its roots while offering refinement inside and out, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid is the right choice. Here, we compare it to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

The Range Rover Sport Hybrid offers better value

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid has a starting MSRP of $185,600, which is far from the Range Rover Sport Hybrid's current MSRP of $95,500. The Cayenne has a lot of ground to make up for the steep price, but it does not justify the cost based on our observations.

Range Rover Sport Hybrid's P400e powertrain combines an advanced 2.0-litre 296 horsepower gas engine with a high-capacity 105 kW electric motor to deliver a combined output of 398 horsepower. The electric motor can work in full Electric Vehicle (EV) mode or contribute its power in parallel with the engine. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid has more power with its engine, but it is very difficult to justify considering the higher price range.

The Range Rover Sport Hybrid is more adaptable to terrain

With its signature Ranger Rover off-roader DNA, the Range Rover Sport Hybrid is more adaptable to any type of terrain. It features a special four-wheel-drive system that is one of the most advanced on the planet. The available twin-speed transfer box with an electronic centre differential that provides more control in challenging conditions such as steep inclines or declines, off-road, or towing. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is held back with its AWD system.

The Range Rover Sport Hybrid also has a more sophisticated road surface management function with its Terrain Response system. It optimizes torque and grip to adapt to many types of surfaces. Settings include modes like Comfort, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts and Sand.

The available Terrain Response 2 system takes the technology to a new level. It adds an automatic setting that monitors driving conditions—just like AWD—and automatically selects the proper terrain setting. Drivers can also select the new Rock Crawl Mode, which helps the Range Rover Sport Hybrid to climb or descend rocky or other tricky terrain. The Porsche doesn't come close to this capability.

Range Rover Long Wheelbase Seven-Seat: Why Montreal's Executive Families Are Paying Attention

Most seven-seat luxury SUVs ask you to accept a trade-off. The third row gets the space, but it comes at the cost of rear-seat refinement, cargo volume, or the kind of ride quality that makes a long vehicle feel composed rather than cumbersome. The Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) with seven seats was engineered to reject that compromise. It adds 200 mm to the wheelbase over the Standard... Read more
