What makes the Range Rover Sport different from the Range Rover?

When you look at the Land Rover SUV lineup, it's understandable that the names of the models can be confusing, especially if you're not familiar with the brand. However, once you know the products, it's pretty easy to understand.


Let's take the Range Rover Sport as an example. It just so happens that there is another model in the range with the same name, but without the Sport designation. So what makes the former different from the latter?


Let's take a closer look.


Sporty vocation


The Range Rover is first and foremost a model that plays the luxury card. This is evident with some of the luxury features it offers, including its rear executive seats, seats with hot stone massage, cabin air ionization system, electronic air suspension and sliding panoramic roof.


With the Sport version, there's no shortage of luxury, but your mind is elsewhere when you're driving this vehicle, especially on its performance.


In fact, one look at the two models helps us understand the purpose of each. The Range Rover Sport looks more like a track-ready model than the Range Rover.


Faster?


Not surprisingly, the Sport model is faster. At 0-100 km/h, the Range Rover P400 is 6.3 seconds faster than the P400 Sport model, which is 5.9 seconds faster. Then, at the top of the hierarchy, the more powerful of the two models sees the Sport version dominate once again. The Range Rover Sport's P575 model offers 567 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, resulting in a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds. With the Range Rover, the P565 version offers 557 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and a 0-100 time of 5.4 seconds.


We agree, it's extraordinary in both cases, but if you like raw performance, you'll be better served with the Sport variant.


5 or 7 seats?


The Range Rover is bigger than the Range Rover Sport. Yet it's the latter that offers an optional seven-seat configuration. With the Range Rover, the emphasis is on comfort, as we mentioned, so there's no question of having a third seat. So, if you need additional space for passengers, the Sport variant is where you'll find it.
