Range Rover Evoque or Range Rover Discovery Sport?

You've made the excellent decision to choose a Land Rover vehicle. That's great. However, you're not sure which model to choose, including the Evoque and the Discovery Sport?

Here you are in front of two very interesting vehicles. You won't be disappointed by either one. However, the two are somewhat different. Let's take a look at what makes them different, which may help you make the right choice for you.

The powertrains

Let's start our tour with an element that both models share, the powertrains. Jaguar Land Rover's 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is a magnificent tool that combines power and flexibility. Specifically, it delivers 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque.

The first difference is that with the Evoque, you'll get the best fuel economy rating, simply because this model is smaller and lighter than the Discovery Sport. The difference isn't huge. In the city, it's 11.8 liters versus 12.6 liters for the Evoque. On the highway, 8.7 versus 9.7 liters.

As for the towing capacity, it is 1,500 kg with the Evoque, 2,000 kg with the Discovery Sport.

Seven-seat is possible

Both models offer five-seat interior configurations. However, if you occasionally need to carry more people, you can go for a seven-seat configuration with the Discovery Sport.

Cargo Volume

Because the Evoque is more compact, its cargo capacity is less at 1,383 liters. It's 1794 with the Discovery Sport. It's important to assess your needs here. If you can live well with nearly 1400 liters of volume, there is no need to opt for the Discovery Sport simply for that reason. But if you're used to using every inch of cargo space, you know which model to go for.

The entry level

Even though the Discovery Sport is the more massive of the two vehicles, it's interesting to know that it's the brand's entry-level model below the Evoque. The Discovery Sport was actually once known as the LR2.

The difference is minimal with the Evoque, however, because in both cases, you'll find several versions in the catalog and each one is loaded with luxurious features that will seduce you.

In fact, the on-board experience is splendid with each model, as is the driving experience. In both models, you also get the Terrain Response system that gives any Land Rover vehicle a modicum of off-road capability.

In fact, aside from the small differences noted, it's your needs, as well as your heart, that will tip the scales. Yes, your heart, because even though both models will make you fall in love with them, one of them will make you melt more than the other when you take the time to discover them, and test drive them. We'll be waiting for you at the dealership.

Range Rover Long Wheelbase Seven-Seat: Why Montreal's Executive Families Are Paying Attention

Most seven-seat luxury SUVs ask you to accept a trade-off. The third row gets the space, but it comes at the cost of rear-seat refinement, cargo volume, or the kind of ride quality that makes a long vehicle feel composed rather than cumbersome. The Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) with seven seats was engineered to reject that compromise. It adds 200 mm to the wheelbase over the Standard... Read more
