Land Rover Discovery Sport or Range Rover Evoque: two fuel efficient and luxurious options

There are some things that are hard to combine in the automotive world. Sporty performance in a big car, for example, or luxury at a very affordable price. It's all a matter of choice and compromise. You choose one or the other.

However, at Land Rover, we manage to combine certain elements that don't necessarily work well together elsewhere. This is the case for the great luxury and the choice of affordable and reasonable models at the pump.

Two examples come to mind right away: the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque. Two different solutions, but both interesting and respectful of your aspirations and your budget.

Differences

The two models differ in terms of aesthetics. The Land Rover offers a more robust style and is more suited to off-road adventures. It's important to remember that it's a continuation of the LR product line (it was called LR2 before its 2015 redesign). For its part, the Evoque is the perfect compact luxury SUV for urban and social outings. Its style, which plays on elegance first, has proven to be very popular since its debut.

Both SUVs offer much of the same luxury features with an unprecedented richness to match the materials used on board. The presentation is also very noble with screens and controls with touch functions. Unique, really.

And that's not to mention the legendary off-road capabilities, divine audio systems, princely comfort level, etc.

One thing in common

Despite their differences, the two models have one thing in common: they share a powertrain that is both powerful and fuel efficient. In fact, we're talking about a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder that benefits from mild hybridization, which is a starter-generator system that helps the gasoline engine during efforts that normally increase fuel consumption (such as starting, for example).

So, despite the fact that we're getting 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, we're getting more than respectable fuel economy averages.

The Discovery Sport gets 12.6 L/100 km in the city and only 9.7 L/100 km on the highway. For the Range Rover Evoque, it's even better with 11.8 L/100 km in the city and only 8.7 L/100 km on the highway.

As you can see, luxury and elegance can be combined with economical solutions at the pump. And let's not forget, we're talking about two entry-level models here, vehicles that are very attractively priced for what they offer.

If you haven't yet discovered them, it's high time you went to the dealership. We're waiting for you!

Range Rover Long Wheelbase Seven-Seat: Why Montreal's Executive Families Are Paying Attention

Most seven-seat luxury SUVs ask you to accept a trade-off. The third row gets the space, but it comes at the cost of rear-seat refinement, cargo volume, or the kind of ride quality that makes a long vehicle feel composed rather than cumbersome. The Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) with seven seats was engineered to reject that compromise. It adds 200 mm to the wheelbase over the Standard... Read more

The brand's 50th-anniversary collaboration with Savile Row tailor Henry Poole & Co. celebrated the city's sartorial heritage by weaving a custom fabric inspired by the original Range Rover interior.
