Land Rover announces its electric shift
February 25 2021,
Across the industry, carmakers are making announcements about their electrification plans. The Jaguar Land Rover Group, in turn, has made a specific announcement to that effect.
In fact, the plans announced were for both Jaguar and Land Rover brands. And although it's going to happen first at Jaguar, starting in 2025, things are going to move quickly at Land Rover as well.
Let's take a concrete look at what has been announced.
The first all-electric vehicle will be introduced at Land Rover in 2024. Six years later, in 2030, 60% of the models the company will sell will be without combustion engines. By 2035, Land Rover will only have all-electric models.
The plan is ambitious but highly respectable.
It's also interesting to know that the Jaguar Land Rover Group will spend $3.5 million each year to make the switch. At Land Rover, within five years, we want to offer six fully electric variants. This means that when the first electric model arrives in 2024, it will quickly be followed by others.
And to accommodate these models, a new platform dedicated to EVs will be created. And the brand's vehicles will benefit from a different approach because it is considered essential that they retain their unique personality.
Basically, it is crucial that any electric Land Rover product should offer the same off-road capabilities as the models we are currently familiar with.
Basically, we're going to have a lot of choices over the next few years, and it will be fascinating. Land Rover, which broke new ground in 1948 with its first SUV, is about to embark on another chapter of its great history.
