2023 Range Rover Sport vs. 2023 BMW X7: authenticity is the name of the game

SUVs have proliferated on the market over the past 20 years, but it's still hard to find true SUVs, that is, models whose versatile and adventurous nature is a matter of DNA.

This is realized by comparing the 2023 Range Rover Sport with the 2023 BMW X7. Sure, BMW's new model is a beautiful machine, but for the true SUV experience, there's no substitute for a Ranger Rover product.

Style

Design is a matter of taste, but with all the BMW models on the road, the X7 doesn't really stand out. On the other hand, the exclusivity of Land Rover's products means that you'll be seen differently behind the wheel, which is always nice when you're proud of the model you choose. As for the design itself, it's fine at both addresses, but the timeless style of the Range Rover Sport gets our vote. This vehicle will still look good in 20 years, or even 40 or 50. With the BMW X7, we'll miss the days when the front grille kept getting bigger.

Anyway, for a more harmonious experience, it's at Land Rover.

Power from the start

With a luxury model, the level of performance offered is important. You don't ask customers to pay a lot of money to buy a model just to give them something "decent". The BMW X7 offers 329 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque from a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine in its base model.

With the Ranger Rover Sport, the offer also begins with a 3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, but with light hybridization. The result is 355 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. As a bonus, the model is about 100 kg lighter.

Off-road

We don't have to dwell on this point. The off-road capabilities of Land Rover products are legendary. BMW does well, but its expertise is not up to par with that offered by Land Rover, the authentic sport utility vehicle brand.

The price

Finally, for models that offer luxury and performance to their owners, it's worth comparing prices. Roughly speaking, you'll have to pay $10,000 less for a Land Rover Range Rover Sport than for a BMW X7. That's still a lot. As a bonus, the model offers a more compelling overall experience.
