2022 Range Rover Velar vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Style Meets Versatility

The award-winning Velar, also recognized as "The Most Beautiful Car in the World," is now established and continues to shine in a segment of cookie-cutter models. It features three powertrains, a versatile interior, and sophisticated handling and suspension. Even though it's a luxury SUV, it's not afraid to take the road less traveled and stretch out its legs using its Land Rover DNA.

Here, we compare the 2022 Range Rover Velar to the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The 2022 Range Rover Velar offers the right powertrains

Offered with three advanced engines, the Velar fills a range of powertrain needs. The Velar S features the P250 engine that generates 246 horsepower, perfect for many adventures. If you require more power, the Mild Hybrid Electric (MHEV) R-Dynamic S and HSE grades offer more. The R-Dynamic S includes the P340 engine that generates 335 horsepower, while the HSE generates 395 horsepower with its P400 engine.

In comparison, the GLC 300 peaks at 255 horsepower, and the GLC 350e reaches 315. However, if you want horsepower that exceeds the Velar's capabilities, you will have to upgrade far up into the exclusive AMG line. The GLC 63 S comes with the lineup's highest price tag and rather excessive and less efficient 503 horsepower. Unless you plan to use your vehicle for drag racing, you probably don't require over 500 horsepower to run errands or go on vacation.

The 2022 Range Rover Velar is more versatile

We could discuss power and performance at great length, but an SUV isn't an SUV unless it is versatile, and the Range Rover Velar meets this standard. It features up 1,985 litres of cargo volume behind the front seats, nearly 400 litres more than the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Behind the rear seats, the Velar has up to 685 litres of cargo volume, 136 more litres of capacity than the GLC.

Occupants breathe easier with the PM2.5 filter, a feature that captures finer particles, allergens, dust and pollen. It helps you create a cabin environment that is optimized for you and your passengers.

The Velar also includes advanced technology that enables the vehicle's telematics, control modules and infotainment system to receive remote updates. Just like your smartphone apps, your Range Rover strives to stay updated using the available Wi-Fi connection.

Range Rover Long Wheelbase Seven-Seat: Why Montreal's Executive Families Are Paying Attention

Most seven-seat luxury SUVs ask you to accept a trade-off. The third row gets the space, but it comes at the cost of rear-seat refinement, cargo volume, or the kind of ride quality that makes a long vehicle feel composed rather than cumbersome. The Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) with seven seats was engineered to reject that compromise. It adds 200 mm to the wheelbase over the Standard... Read more

Range Rover's London-Inspired Editions Arrive in Montreal: Introducing the Evoque Hoxton and Velar Belgravia

Range Rover has drawn design inspiration from London for decades. The Linley Edition, unveiled in Park Lane in 1999, channelled Mayfair sophistication. The brand's 50th-anniversary collaboration with Savile Row tailor Henry Poole & Co. celebrated the city's sartorial heritage by weaving a custom fabric inspired by the original Range Rover interior.
