2022 Range Rover Velar vs. 2022 Audi Q8: The Future of SUV Design

The Range Rover Velar is a modern leader in the SUV world. With an unmistakably avant garde design, you won't find another SUV like it. The modern sophistication pairs with a unique powertrain in every model, and Land Rover DNA is stamped in throughout so you don't always have to stick to mapped roads.

However, there is competition in the Velar's segment, but we are not worried. Here, we compare the Velar to the Audi Q8.

It is easier to access the 2022 Range Rover Velar

The Velar offers a premium luxury SUV experience. As with other models in the Range Rover family, Land Rover ensures your investment offers the best return for every dollar spent. This is also true over the Q8.

The base Velar S features an introductory price of roughly $64,000. Compared to the base Audi Q8 Progressiv, this is nearly $20,000 less. You could upgrade to the Velar S R-Dynamic, add options, and still be under the cost of the base Q8.

For additional perspective, the Q8's highest grade has an MSRP of roughly $92,000. And for those looking at the Audi SQ8 performance model, the price begins at over $111,000.

The 2022 Range Rover Velar features premium engines without the premium investment

The Velar lineup includes three different powertrains compared to just two in the Q8 lineup—if you also count the SQ8. The Velar S features a 2.0-litre turbocharged powertrain that produces 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The Velar R-Dynamic S upgrades to the P340 engine with an increase to 335 horsepower, and the P400 powertrain raises maximum horsepower to 395.

The standard Q8 offers just one engine, a turbocharged V6 that generates 335 horsepower. If you want high-end horsepower, the SQ8 offers 500 at the price mentioned earlier. For comparison, a fully equipped Velar with the P400 engine has a starting MSRP of $40,000 less than the SQ8.

Overall, the 2022 Range Rover Velar is far ahead in styling and value than the Audi Q8. Although the Velar has a more sensible price range, it does not sacrifice the versatility and capability the Land Rover family features.
