2022 Land Rover Defender Gets Supercharged V8 Power

They did it, they actually did it. Already one of the coolest vehicles on the road, the Land Rover Defender will be getting a significant boost in power next year with the arrival of a new 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine in the model lineup.

This massive powertrain will give the Defender supercar levels of performance with perhaps the most distinctive look on the market. The Defender was already incredibly cool, now it will also be incredibly fast. Offered in both two-door Land Rover Defender 90 and four-door Defender 110 configurations, the Land Rover Defender V8 will pump out 518 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, a significant jump over current top-of-the-line P400 turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six.

Land Rover says the V8-powered Defender will reach 100 km/h in just under 5.0 seconds, and if the other models in the Range Rover family with a V8 are any indication, the V8 Land Rover Defender should offer an incredible sound to go along with the performance.

The more powerful Defender will also get stiffer bushings and larger anti-roll bars to ensure that handling and stability are in line with the impressive power. 22-inch wheels will also be offered with larger 15.0-inch front brake rotors.

Other touches will include Alcantara inserts inside, V8 badging, distinctive interior trim, and satin metal touchpoints.

The V8 Defender should arrive on the market towards the end of 2021.
