2021 Range Rover Velar vs. 2021 Porsche Macan: The Velar is a True SUV

The Velar is a compact luxury SUV that features unique avant-garde styling and function that represents the spirit of Land Rover. The 2021 model line offers three powertrains in well-equipped models, including Velar S, Velar R-Dynamic S, and Velar R-Dynamic HSE. The competition tries to catch up to the Velar's style and function, but falls short in many aspects.

Here, we compare the 2021 Velar to the 2021 Porsche Macan.

The 2021 Range Rover Velar offers more accessible top power

Each Velar model has a unique powertrain, offering you a range of performance and efficiency that aims to fit your needs. The Velar S is fitted with the 250 powertrain, which is a turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 247 horsepower and an impressive 269 lb-ft of torque. The Velar R-Dynamic S raises output with a turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 335 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful model in the lineup, the R-Dynamic HSE, features the P400 engine that develops 395 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.

The Velar's competitor, the Macan, offers four powertrains over the same number of models. However, you will have to make sacrifices. The Macan and Macan S models have nearly the same output as the Velar S and R-Dynamic S, and the Macan GTS offers 20 horsepower less than the Velar R-Dynamic HSE. The most powerful Macan model, the Macan Turbo, offers 434 horsepower, but it is very costly. You'll pay $13,000 more for just a minor gain in horsepower.

The 2021 Range Rover Velar is a true SUV

The differences between both vehicles are apparent at first sight. The Macan looks more like a car turned into a crossover. The Range Rover Velar is an advanced SUV with advanced off-road features like Terrain Response that carry on the spirit of Land Rover in terms of capabilities and performance.

The Velar is also the most spacious of the two vehicles. The Velar features 1,731 litres of cargo volume with the rear seats folded down. The Macan offers 1,504 litres, a significantly less amount when configured in the same way. The Velar is the better vehicle if you want to comfortably fit your passengers and cargo.
