2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport vs. 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC: A Modern Twist on a Legend

Land Rover is an iconic name in the world of SUVs. Known for innovation, versatility, style, and more, these and other traits are a part of the Discovery Sport. The clean design offers a modern take of the brand, and robust powertrains bring a variety of choices to the model lineup.

The Discovery Sport stands up to several competitors in the segment. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is priced right

The Discovery Sport and its GLC competitor include base models that have a starting MSRP of $49,000. However, this is where the similarities end. The Discovery Sport's three subsequent models have MSRPs between $50,800 and $56,900, which is attractive with the standard equipment and capabilities in each grade. After the GLC's base model, customers are stuck paying MSRPs of $65,500 and $94,900 for the final two grades.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport extends its value

The Discovery Sport includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 249 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This blend of power and response is everything you need to take your place on a busy road or quietly cruise to a weekend retreat.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 also includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a very similar output to the Discovery Sport. However, the subsequent AMG models have a much higher price point despite the increase in performance, essentially making them an entirely new class of vehicles.

The Discovery Sport's versatility is inherited from a long line of popular SUVs that are built to be flexible and durable. It's no surprise that the Sport features more cargo volume than the GLC, whether it's behind the front seats or rear seats. The GLC loses its versatility with less available cargo area, and it also has less rear legroom and headroom than the Discovery Sport. Family vacations or even short and loaded trips become better with the Land Rover.

The Discovery Sport also features more technologies like Pivi and Pivi Pro systems, Terrain Response 2 and wading capabilities that put this Land Rover ahead of the GLC in all aspects.
