2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport blends the right amount of luxury, technology, style, and performance into an SUV that places it into a class by itself. Competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC attempt to breach the Land Rover’s standing, but it proves to be a difficult undertaking.

Style matters with the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport

When compared, the exterior of both vehicles are strikingly different. Each maintains a hint of the design DNA of their respective brands, but that is where any similarities stop. The Land Rover Discovery Sport exhibits a carefully thought aesthetic that is truly unique among all SUVs.

Top to bottom, all lines create a beautifully balanced and sculpted form that will gain the respect of many discerning buyers. The Mercedes-Benz GLC tries to achieve a graceful form, but it becomes unbalanced with a lengthy and flat hood that appears to give the vehicle a lower, station wagon-like profile.

The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport has more engine options

The Land Rover Discovery Sport includes two engine options. The P250 is a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It is standard in the Discovery Sport trim and optional in the Discovery Sport R-Dynamic. The second engine, the P290, is also a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine, but it increases horsepower to 286 and torque to 295 lb-ft. This engine is available in the R-Dynamic trim.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC includes a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a power output of 255 hp and 273 lb-ft torque, but this engine only provides a slight gain in power and is the only engine available for GLC. With two engines available, including one with significantly more power, the Land Rover Discovery Sport wins the engine competition.

The interior of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport focuses on entertainment, comfort, technology, and convenience. The sound system offers a full acoustic range as you control the Discovery Sport using the comfortable leather-covered steering wheel. Other features include: ambient interior lighting; dual-zone climate control; rear camera; Traffic Sign Recognition; Adaptive Speed Limiter; Emergency Braking; and much more. Many of these features are only available as an add-on package with the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Range Rover Long Wheelbase Seven-Seat: Why Montreal's Executive Families Are Paying Attention

Most seven-seat luxury SUVs ask you to accept a trade-off. The third row gets the space, but it comes at the cost of rear-seat refinement, cargo volume, or the kind of ride quality that makes a long vehicle feel composed rather than cumbersome. The Range Rover Long Wheelbase (LWB) with seven seats was engineered to reject that compromise. It adds 200 mm to the wheelbase over the Standard... Read more
