2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport vs 2020 BMW X3
February 21 2020,
The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is gaining traction in Canada with not only its style, technology, and luxury, but raw DNA that made Land Rover synonymous with off-road driving. It goes where other luxury SUVs can’t, and that includes the BMW X3. Here, we compare both vehicles so you can make an informed purchase.
The Discovery Sport is unique, but it also carries DNA that reflects the heritage of its predecessors. It’s higher than the X3 by 51 mm, enabling you to see more as you take the capable Discovery Sport on off-road adventures. It also provides 211 mm of ground clearance, important for all-terrain driving.
The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport places value on power
The 4WD Land Rover Discovery Sport line includes two engine options. The P250 AWD is a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It is standard in the Discovery Sport trim and optional in the Discovery Sport R-Dynamic. The second engine, the P290 AWD, is also a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine, but it increases horsepower to 286 and torque to 295 lb-ft. This engine is available in the R-Dynamic trim. This las engine also comes in the Land Rover Discovery Hybrid.
The BMW X3 also includes two engine options. A turbocharged four-cylinder produces 248 hp in the xDrive30i and a turbocharged six-cylinder in the X3 M40i generates 382 hp. The Discovery Sport’s turbocharged engines meet or exceed the horsepower capabilities of the BMW X3 xDrive30i and also have a lot more, but yield to the M340i’s six-cylinder. However, there is a catch. However, X3 M40i has a starting MSRP approaching the $67,000 range, which will run much higher as you personalize the vehicle. The Discovery Sport’s R-Dynamic, with its more powerful engine, has a starting MSRP $51,250. Plus, the X3 has not Hybrid offering.
The 2020 Land Rover Discovery has more room
The Discovery Sport opens up with more cargo volume than the X3. It has 167 litres of additional space behind the second row than the X3. When you need to pack extra bags and other cargo on a long family trip, that’s important. With the rear seats down, the Discovery Sport still edges out the X3 in cargo volume. Overall, the Discovery Sport has more cargo volume than the X3.
